Below is the continued History of Leixlip Town FC

The Story Continued

If the feeling in the club was unbelivably good in early June it was to get unbelivably bad by late August when failure to get the required commitment from the players led to Mick Donaghue quiting as Manager followed by Damian Brosnan as Secretary. Every single first team player departed to other clubs and the great team that had risen from Division 4 to the top of the Kildare League was no more.
If people tought the club was finished they were to be proved wrong when two teams were entered in the Kildare League for the new season in Division 4 and LFL Div.3 Saturday. Jim Keating took over the Sunday side with George Murray looking after the Saturday side. Gary Keegan took over as club Chairman with Keating as secretary. Both sides had good seasons finishing Runners-Up in their Leagues however the whole season was decleared a complete success when the Sunday side won the prestidious Republic Of Ireland Supporters Club Cup beating Monesterevin 2:0 in the final played at Allenwood in front of a big crowd.
Adrien Harrigan and Declan Kehir were appointed 1st. and 2nd. team Managers for the 2002/03 season. The 1st. side continued their climp up the Divisions when again finishing Runners up to Coill Dubh in the league, revenge was to come in the Republic of Ireland Supporters Cup however when goals from Graham Kiersey (2) and Alex Gilmore gave Leixlip a 3:2 win over Coill Dubh in extra time. Leixlip also reached the final of the Kildare League Shield but were beaten 5:3 by Senior Division side Castlevilla after leading 3:2 at half time. Proberly the biggest achievment and dissapointment came in the L.F.A. Junior Shield Final when Raheny Utd. from Dublin won 4:3 after Leixlip came from 4:0 down to just run out of time before the equaliser could be found. This was only the second time that a Kildare Team had reached a Provincial Final in over 120 years of Football. Declan Kehir's second team finished near the bottom of a very strong Kildare League Saturday Division that included teams that played Senior Division Football the previous year.
One of the most pleasing aspects of the year where the big crowds that followed the team all over the county making Leixlip Town one of the best supported clubs at any grade in Kildare.
Going into the new season it was decided to ask the league to skip Divisions two and one and to be placed in the Premier as the club were capible of that level. The first 3 games of the season proved this as 19 goals wear clocked up as the Town went top of the Division, however over the next 2 months 10 players went to work abroad. Leixlip struggled to maintain their start and fell behind both Kill and Crystal Celtic. Recovery came after Christmas and 3rd. place was succurred and a play-off against Allenwood Celtic. A 3 nil win gave promotion to the Senior Division three seasons after we should have taken our place there. After the great cup runs of last season this season proved a bit of a disappointment as a semi-final spot in the Premier Cup was the furthest we progressed.
The 2004/05 season saw the club enter three teams into the Kildare League and the LSL, the first team under new Manger Mark Conway struggled in the league but managed to stay up with some very good results late on against the top sides. The team then went on to claim the Senior Cup by beating Suncroft in the Final. Both the 2nd and 3rd teams finished near the bottem of their respective Divisions.
